Biloxi trip report...

Biloxi was fun. It was Daniel's last weekend out with the guys as a single guy, and probably ever lol.

Thursday

So the first group of us arrived around 1:30 AM or so Friday morning (so we'll just say Thursday night). I hit the ATM as soon as I got there, then it was to the roulette table. I took a couple of bad beats, if you will. I couldn't get at the table Shaun was playing at after waiting a few minutes, because it was so packed, so I went to another table. My money number is 17. I usually put $5 to $10 on 17 and spread the rest out. Hitting one number pays 35 to 1 by the way. So I lose a few spins and look up at the board at the table that I WANTED to play at, and 17 had hit twice in 5 minutes.. That's a bad beat. So I lost a little bit there, then went to the poker room. To my surprise, there were only 3 games going at the time. I guess since it wasn't the weekend yet, the vacationers weren't really out there playing yet. There was a 1/2 NL that was full, a 2/5/10 NL that is way too high for me, and a 4/8 limit. I didn't feel like waiting around for a seat in 1/2 NL, and actually I wanted to play 4/8 instead because I miss limit sometimes, and I LOVE live limit. It was only 6-handed after I sat in, and after a few minutes I was pwning. I lost a big hand at the end though, and won $65 after an hour. That game and the 1/2 NL broke up, which sucked for me because I was planning on pulling an allnighter and getting some of the 10 hours in that I needed for the poker room rate. Oh well. So at this point, I was up $15 for the trip (down $50 roulette, up $65 poker), so I decided to put $5 on 17 at roulette 3 times in a row. First time, whiff. Second time, whiff. Third time, doink! Pay me $175 please thanks. About time! So some of the people with us had already gotten a room for the night, so I just went on and got some sleep so I could play the noon tourney the next day.

Friday

So I got up and ate breakfast (didn't pay for food once the whole time down there, I love comps). At noon the tourney started. I loved the structure. It was a $135 buyin that started you with 10k chips at 25/50. There were 58 entrants and they ended up paying 10 people. I was somewhat short after a couple hours and pushed with QQ. It held against A8. Later, when we were down to 2 tables, I was short again, like 11k at 1k/2k or something like that. Active old guy with alot of chips who had raised every button folded to him, raises on the button after its folded to him to like 6k. I'm in the sb with 66 and know he's doing that with any 2, so with the antes even if I'm against a flip its time to gamble. I push and he has to call. I was happy to see his J6os and even happier when no Jack rolled out. I had a little over 10bbs now, and could actually start to do some damage if I caught another decent hand. Later, a really funny hand came up when I was in the bb with about 27k at 1500/3000. It folded to an old lady in the sb, who just called. Now she was playing loose passive for the most part, and was usually folding to raises pf, so I figured she just wanted to see a cheap flop like most of the old people. Once she limped, it didn't really matter to me what I had, but it ended up being Q3os. I raised 8k more, which was a pretty big raise in that spot I think, but like I said I was sure she was folding. WRONG! She calls quickly. Flop is 389 rainbow. She checks to me and again I bet 8k, praying inside that she folds. Nope... She calls. At this point I'm down to like 10k or so and not feeling good about the hand. Turn is 10. Check check. River 4. Check check. She quickly shows AK and I show my Q3 to ship the nice pot and totally screw up my image, which was very tight and solid before that lol. So I lose a couple more pots to calling stations when I try to wreck the bubble when I miss and they can't drop 4th pair or whatever. We get to the 10-handed final table and I'm pretty short. I ended up busting 9th when I pushed from UTG for like 3x the bb with 910. 2 guys call and after the turn the board is QKxx, and one guy forces out the other guy and has AA. I miss my Jack and take 9th for like $217. At least I made the final table for a 4th straight time down there, but man I'm really tired of these 5th-9ths. So we went out Friday night and had a good time. Coast (the club in the Beau) is probably the best club I've ever been to, but then again, I haven't really been in many outside of Columbus. We walked over to the Hard Rock after that and nothing was really going on, so we headed back. Daniel was passed out already way before this of course.

Saturday

I played in the 15k guaranteed $235 buy-in at noon. I played well, but unfortunately couldn't keep my streak going. There was this one guy, who seemed like a decent player, sitting directly to my left. Man I hate playing with people that whine all the time. I mean seriously. I'll admit that I do sometimes online, but nothing like this guy. And its not like he ever got bad beat in a big pot or anything, he was just a little girl. Its like I was playing with Hellmuth, except not as good. Look at me, whining about a whiner... Anyway, I raised in MP probably about 5x the BB with QQ after an UTG limper. It folded back around to him and he shoved. He didn't have enough chips, and neither did I, to get me off the hand. But I don't think he did the limp early c/r allin with AA or KK like alot of ppl do, he just seemed kinda donkish, so his range was pretty wide. Especially because he tanked about 20 seconds. Anyway, I call and he has AJ. xxJxJ. I'm down to probably about 4xBB, but I work my shortstack back up to just below avg. I probably have about 11xBB in MP and shove with JJ. Hellmuth tanked and called. Everyone else folded. He showed KJ... wtf??? He wasn't a big stack either, which still shouldn't matter because thats a horrible call no matter who raises in MP, especially shoves for 11 BBs, but it was obvious that people had put him on tilt and he was spewing. But after xxxxK board I was out. It was fun though, and I think I did all that I could. So I played some more 1/2 NL cash to get my 10hrs for the room. Very first hand I get AA and raise to 15 (very standard raise) and all folded. lol. Broke about even after 4 hours. We went to the club for a little bit again, and went to the Hard Rock and played some roulette, and I called it a night a little earlier than some of the others at around 3:30ish.

Gambled away $100 more in roulette Sunday morning then headed back. I think I broke about even, maybe won a little bit, on the whole trip. It was fun and hopefully I'll make it back down there sometime before the end of the year. Congrats Daniel! It was good knowing you!

Well I've played 9,805 hands of full ring .25/.50NL since I've been back. Lost like $100 in my first session, then came back up the next few. Yesterday I had a terrible $250 or so losing session, and today in less than 1.5k hands I won like $300. Its real swingy right now, but thats ok. I'm a $232.20 winner since last Monday, at a rate of 2.37BB/hr. I'll just start pasting results in here straight from pokertracker once I figure all that out, but right now I just don't feel like it. Well thats all for now. I'll try to update later this week or early next week. I will obv be tailgating and attending Auburn's opening game Saturday. La-Monroe comes to town. Ship....

Biloxi bound.....

Well I played cash games for a couple days last week. I did pretty well, winning probably around $250 or so in probably around 3k-4k hands at 50NL. I didn't play much, and ran pretty well when I did play. I am definitely still going to start grinding the cash games (with a couple MTTs a week mixed in), but this week I decided to play some MTTs. I think I played really well this week overall. I got pretty deep a couple times, but didn't have any huge cash. I did make a final table last night in a $22 180-man, getting 5th for like $220something. Today I played a few $12 180-man turbos. I busted 10th, right on the final table bubble, in a sick hand. The 2 tables left were 5 handed, and I was about 5th or 6th in chips with like 24k or so. Very active guy pushes from the cutoff (has 100 less than me) when blinds are 1500/3000. I have 1010 and insta-call from the BB. He shows 22 and a semi-ugly 3d4d5d flops (I say semi-ugly because I have the 10d, but of course he has the 2d so the Ad or 6d is no good. So anyway, he spikes the Ace of hearts on the turn and I miss my 6 outs to win and 2 outs to chop. I would have been chipleader at the final table had I won that 80/20, but instead had 100 chips left and only 1/3 to cover the ante. (a little variance in MTTs maybe??) I won the next hand and moved up to 500.. woohoo!!!! Then lost the next hand with A5 to 87. So I bubbled the final table... I run good... But I still love MTTs and will have to keep playing them from time to time.

Well Biloxi is coming up. I'm leaving tomorrow after work and we should get there around midnight or so I'm guessing. I'll be pulling an all-nighter tomorrow night, probably grinding 1/2 NL the whole time. If I get up a few hundred I may gamble and jump in the 2/5 NL game. The games are soooo soft for the most part down there. I'm really looking forward to the tourneys though. I've final tabled my last 3 tourneys down there, so hopefully I can win one. Of course poker isn't the real reason we're going down there though. Daniel is getting married in a few weeks, so this is his bachelor weekend. We're going to try our best to make sure he has a good time. Well thats all for now... hopefully I can pull out a nice win this weekend. I'll update when I get back.

Back to..... yep..... cash games!!!!!!

Haha... obviously. I got tired of SNGs again. Through 10 weeks I was up like $600 or so with a 5.5-6.0% ROI... Not very good, but I think I ran bad too. SNGs just burn me out too quickly. Yes I can play 16 to 20 tables at once, but when it gets shorthanded on them, it really sucks. Yes I can play well over 100 a week... but if the internet goes out during just 1 session, my profit takes a HUGE hit. Its just not worth it.

I've been doing a little research and lurking on 2+2 and I realize that although SNGs can boost a bankroll substantially, cash games are where the real money is. I look at it this way.... The average "decent/good" .25/.50 NL player should maintain about a 2BB/100hands (BB being big bets, not big blinds) winrate over a large sample size (large meaning at least 100k hands), give or take a BB. A very good cash game player at that level can probably maintain higher than a 4BB/100hands, but I don't claim to be THAT good, so we'll stick with 2BB/100. So, if I play 10k hands a week, I should be able to sustain about a $200 profit, give or take, per week. I can easily (I tried tonight) play 12 tables at once overlapping. This is so much easier than multitabling at SNGs because I play full ring games, so they don't get short-handed. When they do, I move. I will probably eventually start to 16-table just to boost my hands/hr rate. If the internet ever goes out, I'm fine. I may lose a few bucks that I have in a pot while a hand is going, but other than that its nothing compared to losing 20 buyins at SNGs. I'm starting with EXACTLY $1,000 in my stars account, so I have 20 buyins at the 50NL level. Its not optimal bankroll management, but hopefully it will do.

I'm going to purchase PokerTracker soon, so not only do I not have to worry about keeping up with my own stats, but I will have everything right in front of me about me and my opponents to help me. I think I'll mix in a tourney or 2 per week just so I won't go crazy... lol. Well thats all for now.
